Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica

album cover

Being such a progressive album, it is hard to imagine that Trout Mask Replica arrived during the California music scene in 1969. Following shortly after "The Summer of Love", Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band maintained a psychedelic sound not unlike their contemporaries, The Mothers of Invention, etc. However, Captain Beefheart brought forth an even more discordant sound and experimentalism unlike anything heard before. One can simply read their surreal, avant garde lyrics to realize the extraordinary vision of Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band. While the Trout Mask Replica recordings sessions more than likely involved hallucinogenic substances, Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band will continue to be a major influence amongst alternative artists.
