For the anamorphosis assignment, I chose to manipulate the image of a cup. There was no real wisdom behind my selecting this item, aside from the fact that it seemed to be a simple enough shape that would be relatively easy to anamporph successfully.
I first measured out the distance and height that I wanted the observer's perspective to be in order to view the image correctly. I then used Anamorph Me! to stretch the image based on the information I provided. Using the Rasterbator, I generated a two-foot-long printout that was then placed on my kitchen table. This seemed as good a place as any to put a large, anamorphed cup.
In selecting a material, I wanted to choose something that would be relatively forgiving. I did not want to use large or bulky objects that would be difficult to manipulate. I also wanted to maintain the green color of the original cup. Keeping these two factors in mind, I decided to use split peas as my material. The peas had a fantastic green color, but were also small enough that they could easily bend around the form of the cup. Using the dots of the rasterbated image as a guide, I then scattered the peas on the surface of the image, densely concentrating the peas in areas where the color was darker, and more sparsely in areas where the color was lighter.
