I chose a raw slab of pork loin mainly for its photographic intrigue and also for the very organic nature of raw meat in general. Siegfried Kracauer states one of photography's affinities with life as the refuse, a kind of nature that photography has the potential to reveal to us. After the challenges of smuggling in raw meat into a public photocopying environment and avoid looking suspicious or insane, I was able to explore the many disfigurations of form the raw meat underwent. It's soft, organic, slimy, and slippery nature gave me many opportunities to explore many ways of photocopying the slab. I was even able to incorporate the residue left behind from the imprint the slab left on a piece of paper and even photocopy that. I explored lifting parts of the subject to fake a shallow depth of field shot like in photography, creating depth. Overall I had lots of fun exploring various ways of photocopying meat and having many civilians assume I was insane. |
