electrophotography

electrophotography was the original name given to the process that was to become "xeroxing." in this exercise, you will use a photocopy machine - it doesn't have to be a xerox brand - to produce a composition. first, find an organic object (for example: a leaf, a flower, a worm, etc.). then, use a photocopy machine with the goal of making an interesting final composition on an 8½ x 11 sheet of paper. feel free to cut out the copies and reuse the images in subsequent generations along the way. you can play with the contrast, move the object as the light scans across the glass, and lift the object to create a blurring effect. be inventive. For the presentation, be prepared to talk about your final composition in terms of repetition, layering, figure, ground, texture, scale, lightness, and darkness. for january 24, you will pin up your 8½ x 11 composition.
