PS 6: Information Architecture

1. How will you use the characteristics of the web to your advantage to create your dynamic site for this class?
I am planning to have an animated interface, which dramatically changes depending on which version of the site the user clicks on. There will be various versions, each with a different orientation, so that the entire flash interface (or, if possible, the entire window) will flip from, for example, horizontal to vertical, or the the navigation will flip from top to bottom. I have yet to determine whether it would be appropriate to coordinate the different versions with designated categories for the research reports, or whether the versions will be chosen (or even edited) by the users. As viewers read the reports, they will be able to select whether they agree with the authors conclusions (assuming the author forms an opinion), and post a corresponding comment either aimed at the author (if they disagree with him/her) or to the topic (if they agree with the author). Thus, the site will incorporate a number of the elements listed in Understanding the Web as Media. It will grab the information from an external database. It will use automation in that it automatically posts messages, and the messages will be sent live, in real time. In addition, it will be animated, utilizing another aspect of the web.
