Purpose of Site

• a textual reference of internet history, trends, technologies
• a hyperlink’d jungle of information – one step left and your reading something new
• a nicer slashdot, digg, or maybe even wikipedia

Intended Readership

• Nerds, technology enthusiasts
• People on the internet who like to click around when bored

Visual Language

• Friendly and Accessible—the content will be nerdy, and the IA will be complicated, but the design should encourage casual exploration
• Visually sparse and whitespace heavy, at least until deeper exploration begins
• I won’t have a problem with it looking very “Web 2.0,” though it shouldn’t look like a small business or web application

Inspiration

These sites are good at make the main content the primary focus and hiding the tools and secondary content till later

• Kottke – different types of content fit together seamlessly
• A List Apart – magazine-like and web-like at the same time
• Niggle – tools come after the content
• FTrain – remarkable IA, most legible site ever
• Subtraction – so clean, great IA
