PS 6:
Part 1
"The
medium is the message," said Marshall McLuhan. And for this class, the web
is our medium. And how perfect because the content of the sites that we will
be creating is exactly that; our sites will be by the internet about the internet.
One of the characteristics that Cloninger discusses is Many-to-Many networking,
and needless to say, this site will be available to the public to research
and receive. I will incorporate a form where onlookers can comment and add
information, in the spirit of Wikipedia. This furthers the interactivity in
the site. Because the technology of the internet is changing and evolving
so fast, maybe people can even add their own topics, so the site can be constantly
uploaded with new information. There can be a search form as well.
What will make that possible, the uploading of comments and information, will
be what Cloninger designates as his third and fourth characteristic of the
web: database and automation. Automation "subsumes the term 'interactive'"
and thus allows for the changing of content. Independent of someone manually
updating and over writing old information, a simple alteration of the text
files/tables will be sufficient to make the content up to date. .
