I want my portfolio to be a visual representation of how I generally intend my designs to be, simple, and to the point. At a functional level, I want everything to be readily accessible from the front page, without hunting through links or sifting through multiple pages. I know that frontloading the main page like that can cause loading issues, so I want to arrange the data in such a way that everything that is displayed first loads first, while everything else loads behind it. I want to use relatively light (bitwise) graphics to make the load as painless as possible for both client and server.
I would like the overall aesthetic feel to be that of an Artist's desk. I will use photographs and pencil drawings to achieve this effect with all the page content loading in on a piece of paper dominating the design. My current thought is to use visual representations of masking tape as an indication of which menu item is currently in focus. Hopefully this look more like a living workspace for artwork, rather than a gallery.
If all goes well, the design will be straight-forward and an accurate representation of my work, possibly rough around the edges, but effective. Most of all, I hope to make the site professional in execution, but not overly serious in presentation, which if not an accurate description of my style as a designer, is the description of the way I would like to present myself.
