PROPOSAL
We are molded by our surroundings-- the people we meet, the places we go, and the things we see. They dictate what we express and how we choose to express it. Growing up in the relaxing foothills of San Jose all my life and abruptly moving to the fast-paced city of Los Angeles has shifted the way I think, and inevitably, the subject and style of my work.     Similarly, the rapid development of the Internet has opened up new possibilities, overcoming the obstacles of time and money to allow me to meet a wide variety of people and to essentially travel to a wide range of places. I, like many otherartist and designers, use the internet as a means of displaying my work, subjecting it to a wider audience than it would otherwise have received. At the same time, I am able to catch glimpses of other people's lives, learn from them, and incorporate their experiences into my own work. Curt Cloninger states that "Net art wants to be collaborative, because the net is simultanously a global communications network and a global display gallery." I want people to collaborate with my work, to gain an intimate understanding of who I am and where I come from in the comfort of their own computer. My website is a dedication to the moments that stick with me forever in my art and designs. Each click of the mouse allows the user to explore different environments; each is a representation of personal experiences. Although much of the website constantly changes, the 8-rayed-sun remains static and prominent in each passing landscape- a declaration of my Filipino ethnicity, symbolizing that we are essentially the same, although at times, we must adapt to our surroundings. Using a relatively simple, yet dynamic artistic language, I hope to encourage the user to explore the landscapes that I have traveled to: each landscape is a testimony of the peopleI have met and the experiences in my life. Just as the many people who have inspired me, I hope to provide a lasting impression on the site’s visitors.
