Concepts
Expanding the individual's thinking about interactive media. Emphasis
on graphic and information design for interactive media applications.
Focus on learning role of conceptual designer as visual communicator.
Methodology for working with sofware.
Skills
Developing prototyping skill for working with interactive media. Enhancing
ability to present and critique. Increasing vocabulary appropriate for
discussing interactive work.
Activities
The principle activity for the course is a series of weekly exercises. These exercises combine concept and technique and will gradually increase in complexity as the quarter progresses. There will be a critique each week, where participants will present their work and receive feedback from the Professor, TA, and the class. Each participant's thought process and visual ideas will be documented in a sketchbook and shared weekly with the Professor and TA.
Evaluation
All work will be evaluated for its idea, aesthetic qualities, and implementation. Feedback will be primarily qualitative but numeric scores will also be given for all work. All problem sets must be completed to pass the course. If a problem set is handed in late, one point (out of 10) will be taken off each day. Work will not be considered complete until it is accessible from the course website. Failure to complete all problem sets will result in not passing the course.
The numeric breakdown for your grade follows:
10% Participation (Contribution & Concentration)
10% Sketchbook
80% Exercise A-H
If you will not be in class, it is your responsibility to inform the TA. More than two unexcused absences will result in failure (an excused absence is one approved by the TA before the start of class).
Students may resubmit their exercises at the end of the course in order to raise their score.
