movable type is a web based content management system that is
mainly used for weblogs and online communities. It is a system designed
to to be easy, user friendly and cheap for all people to be able to
publish their own online journal. It allows the posting of text, images,
video, etc so that a person can quickly and easily share this information
with anyone around the world, via his or her own personal online journal.
movable type was created by husband and wife team mena and ben trott,
web developers in san francisco who happened to be running their own
personal weblog back in 2000. The weblog software they were using was
too limited so they began writing movable type which debuted in October
of 2001. Soon after movable type had tens of thousands of users and
the trott's formed "Six Apart" which is the company that devlops
movable type and other services such as typepad and the now famous
livejournal which runs on the movable type platform.
